Welcome to Watches2U
A British icon, a worldwide star. David Bowie is a household name.
Raymond Weil have decided that the rock and roll legend is worthy of celebration and have honoured him by creating a limited edition watch baring not only his name but his image too. Working with the David Bowie Estate the watch was designed to celebrate what would have been the singer’s 70th birthday
The English singer-songwriter, and even actor, has left a musical legacy that is sure to be everlasting. Owning the stage for over 5 decades Bowie was a man with immense talent and created visionary music for several different genres including rock, pop, and electronic. The popular singer created 11 number 1 albums and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
The watch that Raymond Weil have created to immortalise Bowie is part of a limited edition 3,000 piece, numbered series.
The stainless steel head casing holds much more that a simple analogue display. The watch face is 42mm in diameter and awarded a background to resemble a vinyl record. What could be more fitting for the music legend?
12 o’clock is marked with the red lightening bolt symbol synonymous with Bowie and especially his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Minimalistic silver indexes mark the rest of the hours in a clever move by Raymond Weil to not distract from the hommage to the musician. Another universally recognised symbol is Andy Warhol’s logo of Bowie’s name that sits proudly next to the 6th hour.
The Freelancer styled watch head is powered by Swiss quartz and automatic movement. Sapphire crystal glass seals in the vinyl record on the front of the dial and the iconic Terry O’Neill image of Bowie on the back. 100m water resistance helps keep Bowie’s face and the workings of this exemplary watch from any Love Lost.
Supporting the admirable watch head of the limited edition watch is a sleek black leather strap of 24cm. A subtle red side stitching ties in with the red lightning bolt and Bowie name emblems of the watch face. The smooth band ensures the focal point remains the analogue dial while still creating a unified style. A classic pin and buckle clasp secures the emblematic timepiece.
The final touch to this celebration watch is its presentation box. Just like Bowie the box needed to be a stand out piece as well. The red lightning bolt, seen on this watch face and of course the Aladdin Sane album is a big and bold presence on the box.
Raymond Weil do not disappoint in any aspect of this watch and have succeeded in creating a distinguished and fitting tribute to the legendary character of David Bowie.
