Karen Millen and Kevin Stanford founded the company in 1981 with just a £100 loan to buy a hundred meters of white cotton. They started to manufacture white shirts which they sold to friends and family, shortly followed by a party plan network. By 1983 they opened their very first store in Kent and later Brighton, Guildford, Tunbridge Wells and London; a true British designer label was born.
